The Ronin Project is a trauma-informed nonprofit dedicated to helping people heal and reclaim their lives through movement, creativity, connection, and care. We serve veterans, survivors, returning citizens, and others impacted by trauma through holistic services like mentorship, fitness, creative arts, and wellness coaching (to name a few). We are assembling a team of mission-driven professionals, including trainers, mentors, and educators, to serve our communities. With both virtual and in-person (coming soon!) programs, we operate nationwide using a grassroots, community-based approach. Our mission is to provide accessible, soul-enriching support that empowers individuals to rebuild, reconnect, and thrive.
Trauma does not just wound the mind—it isolates the soul. Individuals carrying traumatic experiences often report feeling profoundly disconnected, not only from others but from themselves. This isolation, if left unaddressed, can have long-term consequences for mental, emotional, and even physical health.
According to the National Council for Mental Wellbeing, 70% of adults in the U.S. have experienced at least one traumatic event in their lives, equating to over 223 million people.
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) reports that people who experience trauma are significantly more likely to develop mental health disorders, including depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
A study published in The Journal of Traumatic Stress found that social isolation intensifies PTSD symptoms, creating a cycle of withdrawal and worsening emotional health.
Harvard University researchers highlight that chronic loneliness and social isolation increase the risk of premature death by 29%, making the emotional toll of trauma a critical public health issue.
Isolation within trauma is especially dangerous because it cuts people off from the very thing most likely to help them heal—human connection.
At the Ronin Project, we are building a bridge back to humanity for people who feel trapped in their trauma. We focus on:
Fitness to rebuild the mind-body connection and empower individuals to feel strong and capable again.
Art to provide an outlet for self-expression, storytelling, and transformation.
Holistic healing practices such as yoga, mindfulness, and energy work to reconnect people with their inner selves.
Intentional human connection through community events, peer mentorship, and shared healing experiences.
Our approach is not just about treating symptoms—it’s about restoring dignity, purpose, and belonging. Because we believe the best medicine for trauma is human connection.
